Author Naomi Pringle talks about her new book, VOICE

May 9 @ 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Come hear local author Naomi Pringle talk about her new book, Voice , the final work of her trilogy about her Jamaican family’s century in America.

“Once I thought to write a history of the immigrants in America,” wrote historian Oscar Handlin. “Then I discovered that the immigrants were American history.” Likewise Ginga’ Root Tea, an American Journey ; Lily: Riding the Color Line , and now Voice , are an evergreen tapestry of America through the eyes of its most recent arrivals.

Copies of the book are available now and at the event.

About the Book

Voice is is an autobiographical story that concludes her story and her family’s story; it’s the story of Jamaican-Americans making a new life in the United States.

About Naomi Pringle

Naomi Pringle, a Manhattan native of Jamaican heritage, graduated from Hunter College of the City University of New York and later became an award-winning broadcast journalist for ABC’s flagship radio station in New York. She has been honored by the Associated Press, the National Urban League, and American Women in Radio and Television.
In 2000, Pringle’s mother, Myrtle Pringle, suffered a stroke and needed Naomi’s full-time care. What could have been a life’s chore turned into a labor of love and learning. Daily conversations with her mother led Pringle to begin researching and recording the memories of her family. “I wanted to tell my story as a novel,” Pringle says. “America is filled with immigrants like my parents, and early on I recognized our commonality.”

Ginga’ Root Tea, an American Journey was published in 2009. In 2014 its sequel, Lily: Riding the Color Line , was published. In 2024, after a 25-year journey Pringle celebrates the end of her literary odyssey with VOICE .
