This course is required by law for anyone born on or after January 1, 1988, to operate a powerboat or PWC. Upon completion of the course, there will be a 60-question examination. Successfully passing the exam will result in receiving a plastic lifetime card from Florida Fish and Wildlife in the mail in about 2.5 weeks. The course is an introduction to safe boating laws and regulations, personal safety and the safety of your passengers, the type and use of safety equipment, trailering, storing your boat, protecting your boat, recreational usage, ability to identify the Aids to Navigation, the rules of the road, and proper techniques of anchoring and securing your boat at the dock. Boat owners could possibly get a discount on their boat insurance for successfully completing the course. Members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary teach the course.
