Take one breath before you keep reading. Notice what your body just did. Maybe your shoulders dropped a little. Maybe nothing. Either way, your body was listening.
That’s pretty much the whole talk, right there in one breath.
I’m a licensed massage and neuromuscular therapist, and I found this work the hard way. I tried everything else first. What finally got through to me wasn’t a thought or some big realization. It was something that happened in my body, before my mind caught up.
So that’s what I want to talk about. How the body holds onto experience, not just memory. How emotion settles into our posture and our tissue over the years. And how touch can actually interrupt the patterns we’ve been stuck in. I’ll tell you the story of someone I call Lena. She isn’t one person. She’s pieces of a lot of people I’ve worked with, and there’s a decent chance you’ll recognize a bit of yourself in her.
My whole thing is taking the science seriously without making it cold, and taking the spiritual side seriously without making it woo. Your body isn’t a container that carries your soul around. It’s where you actually reach it.
