Two honored local poets, Joyce Peseroff and Dorothy Howe Brooks will read from their latest books and talk about their inspiration, processes, and more. Whether you’re a poetry enthusiast or simply curious about the beauty of language, this event is not to be missed. Come and be inspired by the artistry of these two incredible poets. Joyce Peseroff
Petition , Joyce Peseroff’s sixth book of poems, was designated a “must read” by the Massachusetts Book Award, as was her fifth collection, Know Thyself. She edited Robert Bly: When Sleepers Awake, The Ploughshares Poetry Reader, and Simply Lasting: Writers on Jane Kenyon. She has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Mass. Cultural Council, and a Pushcart Prize. Recent poems and reviews have appeared in Mass Poetry’s “The Hard Work of Hope,” On the Seawall , and Arrowsmith Journal. She directed and taught in UMass Boston’s MFA Program in its first four years. Currently she blogs for her website SO I GAVE YOU QUARTZ and writes a poetry column for Arrowsmith Press.

Dorothy Howe Brooks
Dorothy Howe Brooks is the author of two full-length poetry collections and four poetry chapbooks. Her work has appeared in many literary magazines, most recently in Valley Voices, California Quarterly, Broad River Review, Tampa Review, and Atlanta Review. Her most recent poetry collection, This Pause, Like Mist Rising, was published in May, 2023, by Main Street Rag. Her latest chapbook, Subsoil Plowing, was published in 2020 by Finishing Line Press. Her poem “Hearing Loss” was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2018.

Dorothy has a degree in Math and spent 20 years in the computer industry before turning to poetry. In recent years, she has taught poetry writing and fiction writing in Continuing Education at Florida SouthWestern State in Punta Gorda, FL; OLLI at Emory University, Atlanta; and at Kennesaw State University in Atlanta.
