March 7 @ 6:00 PM
Grab your boots, your hat, and your friends and head to Laishley Park as Punta Gorda’s Downtown Hoedown returns with LITTLE TEXAS and THE KENTUCKY HEADHUNTERS!
In the early ’90s, as a new brand of country music was commanding the airwaves, there was a First Time for Everything. With its debut album, Little Texas burst onto the scene with songs written, recorded, and performed exclusively by the members themselves, quickly becoming one of the top vocal bands of the decade.
Thousands of shows and 8 albums later (with over 7 million units sold) and celebrating the 33rd year of its debut appearance on the country music charts, it’s easy to understand why the group earned the moniker “Hardest Working Band in Country Music.” During its heyday, Little Texas racked up 12 Top 20 singles (with 7 Top 10s and 3 consecutive No. 1s in a 12-month period) and received multiple Grammy, CMA and ACM nominations, winning the ACM for Top Vocal Group of 1994. To date, band members have continued to write or co-write, record, and play every note on every single song they’ve released.
The Kentucky Headhunters, declared “the great American rock ‘n’ roll band” by Billboard magazine, began their professional journey in 1968 when brothers Fred and Richard Young and cousins Greg Martin and Anthony Kenney formed the Southern blues-rock band Itchy Brother. The band morphed into The Kentucky Headhunters in 1986. Their first album, 1989’s Pickin’ On Nashville, was released by Mercury Records and surprised the world, becoming a bona fide hit, selling over two million copies. The album won a Grammy Award, three Country Music Awards, an American Music Award and an Academy Of Country Music Award. It spawned four consecutive Top 40 Country hits. Currently, the band is made up of Richard Young, Fred Young, Greg Martin and Doug Phelps.
