“Celebrating Life” – A Live Concert by the Charlotte County Concert Band
February 3 @ 10:30 PM - February 4 @ 12:00 AM
The Charlotte County Concert Band, under the artistic direction of Mr. Bob Miller, presents “Celebrating Life” on Friday, February 3rd at 7:30 PM in the Charlotte Performing Arts Center at Charlotte High School in Punta Gorda. Most of us experience highs and lows in our daily lives. However, through the power of music, we often can be put in an exciting and beautiful place. Soprano Doreen Curp and tenor David Downer return to our stage to sing selections from “Phantom of the Opera” – a performance you will not want to miss. The band will also be playing some inspiring compositions that you will be experiencing for the first time.
“Infinite Hope” by Brian Balmages is the overture for this concert. This work was inspired by Martin Luther King who once said, “We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.” This piece tries to forge a path of faith, trust, belief, and assurance amidst a world of change. Following this piece is a new selection entitled “One Life Beautiful” by Julie Ann Giroux. Having only one life is what makes life so sacred, tragic, and very precious. This is an impressionistic work describing that condition.
One of the most beautiful sights in nature is a rainbow and you will be treated to Jack Bullock’s arrangement of three “rainbow” selections: “Look to The Rainbow,” “Sing the Rainbow,” and “Over the Rainbow.” If you love jazz music, then you will enjoy “John Williams Swing!” Williams has written music in a wide variety of genres and styles. This entertaining and powerful medley showcases his jazz roots and includes “Cantina Band,” “Catch Me if You Can,” and the rousing “Swing, Swing, Swing.”
There will be two major works performed by the Charlotte County Concert Band: “Finale” from the “New World Symphony” by Antonin Dvorak and “Phantom of the Opera” by Andrew Lloyd Webber. When Dvorak was in our country, he wrote “The New World Symphony” and which spread his reputation worldwide. This beloved work honors diversity and inclusion and has been described as one of the most popular of all symphonies. “Phantom of the Opera” won the 1988 Tony Award for Best Musical and is the longest-running show in Broadway history.
We hope that you will join the Charlotte County Concert Band on February 3rd at 7:30 at the Charlotte Performing Arts Center, 701 Carmalita Street, Punta Gorda. Tickets are available online at www.charlottecountyconcertband.com or at the Charlotte Performing Arts Center the night of the concert.
